Jesus is tempted by the devil
Matthew 4
1. Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert, to be tempted by the Devil.
2. And having fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward hungry.
3. Then the tempter came and said to him, If you are the Son of God, order these stones to become bread.
4. But Jesus answered him, It is written, Man will not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes out of the mouth of God.
5. Then the devil took him to the holy city, placed him on the spire of the temple,
6. and said to him, If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down from here; because it is written: To his angels he will give orders concerning you; and: they will hold you in your hands, so that you never trip over any stone.
7. Jesus replied, "It is also written, 'Do not tempt the Lord your God.'
8. Again the Devil took him to a very high mountain; and showed him all the kingdoms of the world, and their glory;
9. and said to him, All this I will give you, if you fall down and worship me.
10. Then Jesus said to him, Go, Satan; for it is written, "You shall worship the Lord your God, and serve Him alone."
11. Then the devil left him; and, behold, the angels came and served him.
